This is the third installment in an ongoing series of duo recordings I have in the works.. The simple premise behind this series is to collaborate with other jazz musicians to explore great songs in the intimate duo setting.
EXCERPTS FROM THE LINER NOTES: The late songwriters Alec Wilder and Loonis McGlohon, who in the 1970s collaborated on a radio series entitled “American Popular Song,” might applaud these performances. They certainly fall in line with the high standards set by the radio show. And Ms. Keeney’s voice and style often recall the jazz and cabaret singers who appeared there or influenced those who did. Jazz singing is back in vogue after a dip in the 1990s. Keeney’s approach attests to technical preparation, emotional maturity and respect for the songs. Even though she sings the tried-and-true repertoire of her predecessors, her performances project freshness consistent with discovery, identity and affirmation. The singer and the song are one.
