FROM THE LINER NOTES:
Dig the diminished chord on the bridge of Meditation. Kevin has found new harmony for this evergreen standard without overtly searching. It was just felt in the moment. That's what's good about this kind of a session. As clean as the music comes across, I know as a musician that it's just a moment in time of what these players hear: but it's complete. There's always a variety to Kevin's lines and voicings; you'll not hear the same twice. Dig the vibe on Django. It just works for me. Things We Did Last Summer is a cool tune to include. I've got to learn that one. Dig Ben's solo on Salute to the Band Box What makes a solo seem perfect? Jazz is a music of solos and on a CD of standards, we learn about the players through their soloing rather than their composing. I think we've learned a lot about who Kevin Van Sant and Ben Palmer are.
